My Yard Art

In 2017, the Tubb’s Fire came roaring through our neighborhood. We were so lucky it missed our house, but it burned a large majority of our understory landscaping. It was too expensive to hire a landscaper to create the new environment I wanted - a California Native Wildlife garden. So I began my research and took on the entire project myself. I’ve hauled over 6 tons of rock, worked through countless pairs of gloves, and even blew out a wagon axle. It’s slowly coming along and I’ve learned a lot through the process. Each year new wildlife is attracted as the eco-system develops. I’ve planted a pollinator pride garden – a rainbow of plants for bees and butterflies, and a fragrance and cocktail garden with lemons, limes and herbs. For fun I also like to make goofy sculptures and signage, much to the chagrin of our HOA.

  • Mosaic Snake

    Every enchanted garden needs a 20’ mosiac python! My snake was perhaps my mid-life crises project. It took about a year to complete while balancing freelance work and full time motherhood. She reminds me to look past the fear to see the beauty of a situation.

  • Sunflower

    This sunflower is an ode to the wagon I used until its axle broke. The pipe stem and gopher basket leaf support the flower made of a wagon’s tire and aluminum petals. A bird spinner mounted to the top is a halo of bees.

    I made these goofy little bee finials for the gateway to my pollinator garden.

  • Aluminum Butterfly

    I created this aluminum butterfly to watch over the pollinator garden. The spots house round colored spinners, however the 3 on the right got blown off in the wind and one is now missing.

    A coil of copper pipe was a simple foundation for this little mosaic snake.

    I like to think of myself as a collection of cobbled together memories, a lot like this mosaic wreath. The whole is greater than the sum.

    I love this tree! Made out of 8 - 10’ PVC pipes and an octagonal base, I created this tree several years ago and love it more every year. No more pine needles!

Wildlife

    We have a small flock of turkeys that hangout almost daily.

    Juvenile raccoon takes a drink.
